New Twitter-Themed Beer Hits The Market

mash001#Mashtag is the name of a new Twitter-inspired beer that recently hit the market earlier this month. This deliciously flavorful American Brown Ale was inspired by social medial networking through Twitter, Facebook and the company’s blog. They set out to create the world’s first social beer that was truly created by fans, and the end result is actually quite remarkable. To learn more about #Mashtag and the story being this innovative new beer, keep reading.

BrewDog is the brewing company responsible for creating #Mashtag. This Scottish brewery isn’t a newcomer to the beer scene. Founded in 2007 by James Watt and Martin Dickie, they’ve quickly grown into a highly successful brewery. According to some estimates, BrewDog is Scotland’s largest independent brewery, producing over 100,000 bottles per month. However, they wanted to create something entirely new that was by the people, and for the people. This is essentially how the duo were sparked with the idea of creating #Mashtag.

In order to make their dream come true, the folks over at BrewDog Brewery needed feedback and opinions from others. After creating polls on their blog, Facebook page and Twitter account, they gathered votes on what to name their beer — and the winner by a landslide victory of 58% was #Mashtag. As some of you may already know, the name is play off #hashtags, which are commonly used in various social media networking sites. They ingeniously replaced the “h” with the “M” to create a smart name that’s still relevant to how the beer originated.

Of course, the name wasn’t the only feedback BrewDog received. They wanted to create a beer with flavors and characteristics preferred by their customers. Users on the company’s social media networking sites opted for a dark American brown ale with hints of hazelnut and oak. Users also voted for a variety of malts, including roasted barley, caramalt, pale malt, amber malt.

BrewDog certainly took a big risk by allowing users to vote on practically every aspect of the beer. So, how did it turn out? #Mashtag scored an impressive 81/100 at RateBeer.com. It’s delicious mix of flavors combined with a 7.5% ABV creates a pleasing beverage that most beer drinkers enjoy. But don’t take my word for it; give #Mashtag a try to see for yourself whether or not it lives up to the hype.
