Study Reveals Which States Consume The Most Beer

638063_22411425Ever wonder which state consumes the most beer? Beer consumption throughout the U.S. has declined steadily over the past decade, with more and more people switching to wine. With that said, the beer market continues to thrive from the east coast to the west, with some states booming in terms of beer consumption/sales. Thanks a study conducted by Beer Marketer’s Insights, we now know which states consume the most beer.

Researchers studies trends and analyzed data covering a span of more than 10 years, paying close attention to beer consumption among the different states. This was done to determine which states in the U.S. consume the most beer. According to a recent study conducted by Beer Marketer’s Insights, the states which consume the most beer are:

#5) Vermont – From 2002 to 2012, beer consumption in Vermont rose by 11.4% — the highest increase in the country. This is due in part to Vermont’s emphasis on craft beer, which has become a staple item in the sate.

#4) South Dakota – South Dakota ranks as the fourth most beer drinking state. This study reveals that the average South Dakota resident consumes approximately 38.1 gallons of beer per year. That’s quite a few pilsner glasses!

#3) Montana – Coming in at #3 on the list is Montana. The Beer Marketer’s Insights reports that Montana residents of the legal drinking age (21 and older) consumed 40.5 gallons of beer in 2013. Surprisingly, this number is actually down from 2009’s count of 43 gallons.

#2) New Hampshire – Residents 21 years of age and older in New Hampshire drank approximately 42.2 gallons of beer, placing it second in terms of overall beer consumption.

#1) North Dakota – the state that consumes the most beer is North Dakota, downing approximately 43.3 gallons of beer in 2013.

According to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), alcohol consumption is responsible for the deaths of 88,000 Americans each year, most of which are from liver disease and/or toxicosis. But beer alone isn’t necessarily bad for your health. In fact, it can prove beneficial when consumed in moderation — the keyword being moderation. Limiting yourself to 3-4 drinks per session is typically a safe amount that will prevent harmful buildups of alcohol in your system.
