Don’t Want To Drink Moonshine? Try These Alternatives

They don’t call it “white lightning” for nothing. When it’s made right, moonshine (AKA white lighting) has a serious kick to it. It’s always fun to watch the face of someone drinking moonshine for the first time, as it’s bound to cause a notable expression. While some people enjoy the natural strength of moonshine, others dislike it. Whether you like it not, there are other ways to consume moonshine without drinking it.

The name pretty much says it all: moonshine cherries are small cherries that have been soaked in moonshine for several days. During this time, the cherries become infused with moonshine to create a deliciously sweet treat. Eating just a handful of these power-packed cherries is sure to give you a buzz, so don’t make the mistake of overdoing it!

Contrary to what some people may believe, moonshine cherries have a long shelf-life when properly stored. If you don’t plan on consuming all them in a single sitting, make sure they are sealed in a jar and place them in the refrigerator. As long as you keep them here, your moonshine cherries will last for years without going bad.

BBQ Sauce

Yep, you can make a kickin’ BBQ sauce using moonshine. If you have a special BBQ sauce recipe, try adding a half cup or so of moonshine to it. You won’t much of a buzz from consuming it, but the moonshine will certainly add a nice kick of flavor.

Spike a Watermelon

Of course, another idea is to spike a watermelon with a bottle of moonshine. This is a great summertime treat that’s guaranteed to cool you down! And thanks to the fruity flavors of the watermelon, the moonshine’s intense kick is a bit more subtle and easier to handle. Just eat a couple pieces of watermelon as you normally would and you’ll be good to go!

If you’ve ever spiked a watermelon with vodka, run or any other liquor, the process is pretty much the same. Use a knife to cut a small cone-shaped hole (2-3 inches in diameter) out of the center. Remove the piece of watermelon and lay it off to the side but don’t throw it away. Next, slowly our a cup of moonshine into the watermelon’s opening. Wait for the moonshine to fully settle and disperse and then place the piece you cut out earlier back into the hold. Let the watermelon sit in the refrigerator for at least 24 hours before consuming it.

These are just a few alternative ways to consume moonshine without drinking it.
