New Hobbit-Themed Beer Varieties To Launch

The-Hobbit-SmaugWe’ve discussed some pretty unique beer varieties here on the MoonshineDVD blog, including a dinosaur bone-infused beer and goat brain-infused beer. Well, we have another unusual variety to add to the list: a Hobbit-themed beer.

Surprisingly, the new Hobbit-themed beers are officially licensed by Warner Bros Entertainment Inc. and New Line Productions, Inc. It’s not uncommon for home and craft brewers to release special varieties with movie or television themes, such as the Walking Dead beer we blogged about earlier this year. Normally, however, they do so without authorization or consent. Fish Brewing, Ocean Brands, and BevLink, however, have joined forced to create an officially licensed Hobbit beer.

Well, actually the three breweries mentioned above are releasing several different varieties of beer, all of which are centered around the Hobbit. The beers, which are 22 ounces in size, contain approximately 10% alcohol by volume (ABV). Don’t let this fool you into thinking are overly heavy, though. According to consumer reviews posted online, all three of the varieties — Bolg Belgian Tripel, Gollum Precious Pils, and Smaug Stout — offer a delightful blend of flavors that’s somewhat mild and easy to drink.

See below for official descriptions of the three Hobbit-themed beers:

“Gollum Precious Pils: A strong Imperial Pils, with flavors as smooth and crafty as Gollum himself. Like the ring which Gollum pursued for the rest of his life, his “precious” pils, if your quest leads you to it, could extend your life too! (at least we’d like to think so) It will, at a minimum, make your journey a little more enjoyable!

Smaug Stout: Smaug Stout is styled after a classic Russian Imperial Stout, but with a subtle hint of Habanero chilis to remind you of the fire and danger awaiting you in your journey to The Lonely Mountain. Pronounced notes of Coffee and Chocolate balanced with Northwest Hops and a touch of heat produce an exceptional imperial stout, a worthy reward for your hard-fought journey.”

Bolg Belgian Tripel: An Orc chieftain who ruled for 150 years, Bolg would drink his grog of choice and no one would tell him otherwise – a flavorful strong Belgian Tripel. Some said it refined an otherwise gruesome character.

Note: these brews are in high demand (for obvious reasons), so you may have trouble getting your hands on them.
