How To Make Moonshine Cherries

cherries-1The exceptionally strong bite of moonshine is too much for some people to enjoy. If you aren’t used to its 95% alcohol content, you might have a hard time drinking it. So, what can you do with your batch of moonshine if you don’t intend on drinking it? Well, before you pour it down the drain, you should consider making some cherries out of it. It’s a fun and innovative way to make your beverage more palatable. And besides, it’s something that most people have never tried, so your buddies are sure to get a kick out of them.

Purchase Your Cherries

Let me first start off by saying that you don’t actually make the cherries. Instead, you use some basic store-bought maraschino cherries to soak up the moonshine. Once they’ve soaked up enough of the fiery beverage, you can place them in a separate container to enjoy. Be warned, though, while these cherries may look like normal little fruits, they are incredibly potent and will sneak up on you if you aren’t careful.

If you haven’t done so already, go ahead and purchase a jar of red cherries from your local grocery store or supermarket. Some people use fresh cherries, but this really isn’t necessary. Just pick up a jar of basic red cherries. When the moonshine soaks into them, you won’t be able to tell the difference between fresh or jarred cherries.

Soaking

There are several different ways to create moonshine cherries, but the easiest method is to drain the juice from a jar of cherries and fill it with moonshine. It’s important to note that you should only pour moonshine into a glass jar. If the cherry jar is plastic, you’ll have to move them into a different container. With the cherry juice drained from the jar, pour in enough moonshine to fill it up.

The rest of the process is a waiting game. The longer your cherries sit in moonshine, the more potent they will be. With that said, you should soak your cherries for at least 24 hours before removing them from the jar. This should be more than enough time for the moonshine to soak through. When a full 24 hours has passed, separate the cherries from the moonshine. You can save the cherries in a plastic container while pouring the juice into a mason jar to use later. Go ahead and eat one of your cherries to see how they turned out.
